IRB – Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (Author)
The following information was provided
during a 22 October 1996 telephone interview with a representative
of the Migration Service of the Omsk Oblast in Omsk.
The representative stated that in July 1994
the Russian Migration Service (FMS) operated out of Moscow and
continues to operate out of Moscow at present. The Migration
Service of the Omsk Oblast has been operating out of the city of
Omsk since 1993. According to the representative, the Migration
Service of the Omsk Oblast office, which issues documents and forms
such as certificates confirming refugee status, is located in the
centre of the city, at 20 Krasnji Put [Red Way]. The representative
stated that the railway station is "not too far away." In July 1994
a police station was not located in the building which housed the
Migration Service of the Omsk Oblast office, nor is one located in
the building today. The representative added that police stations
are located in every raion in the city, thus, a police station is
situated not far from 20 Krasnji Put.
This Response was prepared after
researching publicly accessible information currently available to
the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does
not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular
claim to refugee status or asylum.
