Information on the Nehzat-e-khalq-e Arab (Arab People's Movement), under the leadership of Mohammad Taber al-e (al-) Shobeyr (Shobier) Khaghani (Khaqani), since 1980 [IRN21607.E]

Sources consulted by the DIRB do not provide information on the "Arab People's Movement" under the leadership of Mohammad Taber al-e Shobeyr Khaghani. However, the attached 15 May 1979 Associated Press report, which refers to the "Arab People of Iran", might be useful.

The other attached articles, which provide information on Ayatollah/Sheikh Mohammad Taher al-Shobeir Khaghani in 1979, refer to him as the leader or spiritual leader of Iranian Arabs of Khuzestan Province.

Responses to Information Requests IRN2530 of 7 November 1989 and IRN3488 of 18 January 1990 provide additional information on Khaghani.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below the list of sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
