Information on subjects which are offered as majors at the University of Ilorin and the duration of courses [NGA13124]

This information was provided by a Nigerian professor of government and politics at the University of Texas in Houston. There are approximately 5000 to 6000 students at the University of Ilorin. The number of subjects offered by a university depends on whether it is federally or state funded. Since the federal government has a much larger budget, the universities it funds offer courses in all the traditional disciplines for example mathematics, law, and engineering. On the other hand, the state universities, which are newer than the federal ones, have fewer faculties and do not offer as many courses.

The duration of courses is usually four years, and it takes four years to complete a major in English unless the student has advanced standing, in which case, he or she can do it in three years. Advanced standing is achieved by passing a qualifying examination. Additional and/or corroborating information could not be found among the sources currently available at the DIRB in Ottawa.
