Ministers or high ranking officers of Barré's government taken by opposition forces or involved in opposition groups. [SOM10035]

According to a Somali doctor in Ottawa, it is unlikely that any ministers or high ranking officers of Barré's government were taken [hostage] by opposition forces (16 Jan. 1992). This information is corroborated in a negative sense as there are no references to any hostage-taking, kidnapping, abductions, etc., in the sources usually consulted by the IRBDC.

The attached articles from the IRBDC Indexed Media Review describe the principal opposition groups and their leadership, most of which is composed of former members of Siad Barré's government.
