After more than 7 months of stalemate, Jhalanath Khanal, chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal - Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) gained the backing of the Maoist party and thus won a clear majority of votes in parliament and was elected as new Prime Minister
