Information on a movement called CVX [CHL27214.E]

The acronym CVX stands for Christian Life Community (Comunidad de Vida Cristiana in Spanish, Comunita' di Vita Cristiana in Italian) (CVX [Chile] 28 June 1997; CVX [Italy] n.d.).

The internet web site of CVX (Chile), which stems from the Chilean Catholic University web site, defines its organization as a "community" formed by Christians of all genders, ages and social situations "who wish to follow Jesus more closely and work with Him in the construction of the Kingdom, and who have recognized in the Christian Life Community their particular vocation in the Church" (28 June 1997).

The documents on the Chilean CVX available through its internet web site are in Spanish and thus cannot be attached to this Response. However, please find attached for your reference some documents found in the web site of the Canadian Christian Life Community (CLC Canada).

The attached CLC Canada web page on "Frequently Asked Questions" describes the Christian Life Community as "an international community of small groups of committed (mostly Roman Catholic) lay Christians who seek to integrate the realities of lay experience of Ingatian spirituality [from St. Ignatius Loyola] which calls members to unite their human life in all its dimension with the fullness of Christian faith" (n.d.). The same organization's web page on the international movement ("Christian Life Community—International") gives a description of the international umbrella organization, while the main, introductory page (also attached) provides electronic links to the web sites of CVX Brazil, CVX Ecuador and CVX Italy. Please consult the attached documents for additional information.

The Chilean CVX web site provides contacts for its chapters in various Chilean cities, calendars of events and religious "exercises" for its members, advice, historical background on the international CVX/CLC movement, and electronic links to CVX/CLC sites in other countries, including Canada and the United States.

Information on problems that CVX members may have had with authorities could not be found among the sources consulted within the time constraints of this Response to Information Request.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below a list of additional sources consulted while researching this Response.
