Update to Response to Information Request RUS28962.E of 13 March 1998 on whether the state has harassed or mistreated members or activists of the Committee of Soldiers' Mothers since 1995 [RUS29083.E]

For information on the treatment of members and activists of the Committee of Soldiers' Mothers in Russia since 1995, please consult the attachment sent to the Research Directorate on 18 March 1998 by a programme officer of the Memorial Human Rights Centre in Moscow. Please note that a sentence in the second paragraph of the attachment's first page is partially illegible; however, in a 19 March 1998 letter sent to the Research Directorate by the programme officer, the sentence is legible and states, "Any information about SMC, that we possess, is not an output of any special investigation, but a result of an ordinary circulation of news among NGOs."

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
