A list of individuals wanted by Edo State police following civil unrest in the state in August 1994 [NGA28053.E]

According to a 25 August 1994 Radio Kaduna report, Chief John Oyegun, Comrade Adams Oshiomolo, Mr. Olu Aderubigbe, and Chief Anthony Enahoro were wanted by Edo State Police following civil unrest in August 1994. According to a 21 November 1994 The Ethnic News Watch report, the civil unrest was allegedly sponsored by John Odigie-Oyegun, former civilian governor of Edo State and his deputy, Peter Obadan, who were still at large due to the inability of the intelligence agency to arrest them.

In a 3 November 1997 interview with the Research Directorate, the executive secretary of the London-based National Coalition for Democracy (NADECO) stated that Chief Anthony Enahoro was detained briefly but he now lives in the United States and is the Chairman of NADECO. Other than the names mentioned above, the executive secretary was unable to provide a list of all individuals wanted by Edo State police in connection with the August 1994 civil unrest.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
