IRB – Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (Author)
The names of specific royal families in Warri, Delta State could not be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.
The only reference to a royal family name found the sources consulted was on the Almanach de Bruxelles Website that lists current and past sovereign families of non-European countries (1997). Ogiame Atunwase II is listed as the ruler or olu, meaning "head of the family," of Warri as of 1987 (ibid.).
Additionally, the Delta State government Website includes a listing of local government councils, clans, tribes and traditional ruler titles for Delta State (2002). Each of the tribes in Warri has a traditional ruler, for example the traditional ruler of the Itsekiri is the "Olu of Warri" (ibid.). For the Ijaw tribe, the traditional ruler in Warri North is the "Agadegba of Egbema," in Warri South it is "Amakusu of Ogbe-Ijoh" and in Warri Southwest it is "Amakusu of Oge-Ijoh," "Pere of Gbaramatu," and "Pere of Isaba" (ibid.). The traditional leader of the Urhobo tribe in Warri South is "Orosuen of Okere Urho" and "Ovie of Agbassa" (ibid.).
This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below the list of additional sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
