Follow-up to PAK41331.E of 11 April 2003 on whether documentation is issued by the Ahmadi community in Lahore to certify that a private marraige between an Ahmadi and a non-Muslim took place in Lahore [PAK41521.E]

According to correspondence received from its General Secretary, the Ahmadiyya Anjuman in Lahore does not issue marriage certificates (Ahmadiyya Anjuman 14 Apr. 2003).

Ahmadi couples that "desire" to register their marriage with the Ahmadiyya Anjuman office in Lahore are required to fill-out a Nikah Nama (Form of Marriage), upon which the marriage is entered in the marriage register of the office (ibid.). The form "has no column about religion or sect," as "Lahori Ahmadis are not bound to marry a Lahori Ahmadi" (ibid.). However, a person must take a pledge to be registered and have membership within the Ahmadi Community in Lahore (ibid.).

This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
