Information on the New Democratic Movement, including its links to the Ghana Democratic Movement and its role, membership and present standing, 1996 to present [GHA26425.E]

Information on the New Democratic Movement is limited among the sources consulted by the DIRB.

According to two sources, the New Democratic Movement (NDM) is an opposition party headquartered in Accra and led by Kwame Karikari (Europa 1996, 1392; Political Handbook of the World 1995-1996 1996, 359). The party did not win any seats in the December 1996 parliamentary elections (Africa Research Bulletin 20 Jan. 1997, 12491; New African Feb. 1997, 20).

For information on the New Democratic Movement and its involvement in the Alliance for Change, an anti-government coalition, please consult Response to Information Request GHA22908.E of 5 February 1996.

Information on NDM links to the Ghana Democratic Movement could not be found among the sources consulted by the DIRB.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
