What is the law or policy of Singapore regarding the deportation or expulsion of foreign nationals caught in transit through Singapore with false documents? [SGP9651]

The IRBDC has no currently available information on the law or policy of Singapore with regard to foreign nationals caught in transit with false documents. The attached articles explain the amendment to the Immigration Act of 31 March 1989 which specifies a mandatory three month prison sentence as well as three strokes of the cane for foreign workers who overstay their permits or are working clandestinely. According to the attached report from Le Monde, a single stroke of the cane is sufficient to cause a "tough guy" to faint and the wounds will take a week to heal.
