Update to RUS18795.E of 31 October 1994 regarding the current legal status of Tatarstan [RUS32644.E]

According to an information page on the Website of the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tatarstan, the official name of Tatarstan is the Republic of Tatarstan which is part of the Russian Federation. Furthermore, Article 61 of the Constitution of the Republic of Tatarstan stipulates that:

The Republic of Tatarstan shall be a Sovereign State, a subject of international law, associated to the Russian Federation - Russia on the basis of the Treaty on Mutual Delegation of Authority and Jurisdictional Subjects.

The treaty between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tatarstan "On Delimitation of Jurisdictional Subjects and Mutual Delegation of Authority between the State Bodies of the Russian Federation and the State Bodies of the Republic of Tatarstan" (attached) stipulates that:

[The] Republic of Tatarstan, as a State, is united with the Russian Federation according to the Constitution of the Russian Federation, the Constitution of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Treaty "On Delimitation of Jurisdictional Subjects and Mutual Delegation of Authority between the State Bodies of the Russian Federation and the State Bodies of the Republic of Tatarstan".

Article 106 of The Constitution of the Republic of Tatarstan stipulates that "the head of the State in the Republic of Tatarstan shall be a President."

Article 62 of the Constitution of the Republic of Tatarstan stipulates that:

The Republic of Tatarstan shall enter into relations with other states, conclude international treaties, exchange diplomatic, consular, commercial and other missions, participate in international organisations being taking guidance from the principles of international law.

The Website of the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tatarstan provides the list and addresses of permanent, trade and plenipotentiary representations of the Republic of Tatarstan in Russia, the CIS, European and other countries, including the US, Turkey and Cyprus.

The Republic of Tatarstan does not appear among the Member States of the United Nations as listed in the United Nations Website (1999).
