IRB – Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (Author)
Information on the above-mentioned subject
could not be found among the sources currently available to the
DIRB in Ottawa. However, attached please find documents providing
information on the treatment that rejected Kurdish asylum-seekers
would face upon return to Turkey. These documents may be of
interest. Also of interest could be the attached 26 August 1994
Amnesty International (AI) report on the disappearance of Bisar
Kurt, a Kurd from the village of Kevenaz in the province of Mardin.
According to the AI report, Bisar Kurt was ordered to report to the
local gendarmerie once a week, an order with which he complied over
the years (AI 26 August 1994). On 6 August 1994 he was detained by
members of the Special Team, and since then his family has heard
nothing from him (ibid.).
This response was prepared after
researching publicly accessible information currently available to
the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does
not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular
claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find attached the list of
other sources consulted in researching this information
request.
