Desertion from the paramilitary group Mujahid Force Regiment and penalties applicable [PAK37870.E]

No information on desertion from the Mujahid Force Regiment could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.

However, an 8 December 1998 article published in the Indian Express reported that Shahnawaz Malik, a deserter from the 834 Mujahid Battalion, had been caught in September 1998 by Pakistan officials and "given the choice of going into Kashmir or facing punishment." Malik was later apprehended by Indian authorities (ibid.).

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below the list of additional sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
