A list of all candidates in the Gujrat
ridings in both 1988 and 1990 elections is currently unavailable at
the DIRB in Ottawa. However, a list of successful candidates in the
National Assembly elections of 1990 was provided by the High
Commission of Pakistan in Ottawa. For Gujrat's five ridings, the
successful candidates were:
NA-80: Gujrat-IMr. Tajjamal Hussein (Islami Jamoori Ittehad -
IJI)
NA-81: Gujrat-IIMr. Shujjat Hussain (IJI), current minister of
interior
NA-82: Gujrat-IIIMr. Manzoor H. Shah (IJI)
NA-83: Gujrat-IVSuccesful candidate unknown
NA-84: Gujrat-VSuccesful candidate unknown
A spokesperson at the High Commission of
Pakistan, however, stated that this list reflects the situation in
1990 and it may have changed (23 Dec. 1992). The High Commission
will ask Islamabad for names of candidates in the 1988 elections
and will send us any documentation it will obtain on the
matter.
