Document #1092370
IRB – Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (Author)
No mention of the "Iguelaba Social Development Forum" could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.
However a 26 October 2001 Vanguard article referred to the "Iguelaba community" as one of four communities in Edo state [in southern Nigeria] which were involved in a dispute over the sharing of benefits from the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC). The other three communities were the Obozogbe Nugu, Ikobi and Oben (Vanguard 26 Oct. 2001). Moses Aigbogun and Daniel Akanmwan were respectively identified as chairman and secretary of the "Iguelaba youth forum" (ibid.).
This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below the list of additional sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
