Document #1091046
IRB – Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (Author)
According to a document received by the
DIRB on 17 October 1995 from the Embassy of Greece in Ottawa:
Any alien seeking refugee status through
the competent Greek authorities, upon submitting the pertinent
application and surrendering his national passport--if he has one--
as proof of the fact that he disclaims the protection of his
country, is furnished with a 'Special document of an alien who has
requested the status of refugee' as the attached sample.
Please consult the attachment for
additional information on this "special document," including its
purpose, whether other documents or certificates are issued to
applicants, the rights and obligations of its holders, whether its
holders are entitled to unrestricted exit from and re-entry to
Greece, and on whether it is considered "permission to stay."
Please consult article six of the
attachment for information on an issued special travel document
(TITRE DE VOYAGE).
Please consult the attachment for a copy of
both sides of the "special document," and for a copy of the covers
and the first seven pages of two samples of a special travel
document (TITRE DE VOYAGE).
The DIRB is unable to determine whether the
information contained in the attachment is also applicable from
1992 to 1994.
This Response was prepared after
researching publicly accessible information currently available to
the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does
not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular
claim to refugee status or asylum.
