Whether Jehovah's Witnesses receive a Baptism Certificate or any form of confirmation of their Baptism; if not, means available to a Jehovah's Witness to attest to his baptism when moving to another city; whether there is a central international registry for baptized Jehovah's Witnesses [UKR37309.E]

The Director, Legal Affairs, of the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Canada in Georgetown, Ontario, stated in a 20 June 2001 correspondence that Jehovah's Witnessed in Ukraine are not given a Baptism certificates, or any equivalent, after being baptized. The Director also stated that:

Elders in the congregation from which the person has moved communicate directly with elders in the other city to which the person has moved. No written confirmation is given to the person moving for his or her retention or use.

On the existence of a central international registry for baptized Jehovah's Witnesses, the Director stated that there were no such international or national central registries.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
