According to a report published by Inter
Press Service (8 Oct. 1991), as many as 200 collaborator's of
Moussa Traore were arrested after his fall in March 1991. An
article that appeared in Afrique Magazine (May 1992)
indicates that Moussa Traore, his wife and their children have been
detained since his overthrow. Traore and his wife were first
detained in private rooms in Koulouba palace but they were later
separated and have not spoken to each other nor to their children
(Ibid.). Two articles (Libération 25 June
1991; Le Monde 27 June 1991) state that two influential
members of Traore's former regime, Omar Diallo, Traore's
"aide-de'camp" and Anotale Sanghare, former Director of State
Security were also arrested. Omar Diallo and Anatole Sanghare had
joined the "Comité de transition pour le salut du peuple",
Mali's new government.
Information currently available to the
IRBDC in Ottawa does not indicate whether family members of Moussa
Traore's supporters were also arrested. For further information on
this subject, please refer to the attached documents.
