No information on the probable penalty in Iran for a person convicted outside Iran of trafficking heroin could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate. However, a lawyer who practices law in Iran and the US stated on 9 March 2000 that under Iranian law a person who commits a crime outside Iran and is subsequently apprehended in Iran could be prosecuted in Iran for the crime.
