Update to Response to Information Request MEX16891.F of 15 March 1994 on a group called "El Jaguar Despertado" [MEX23137.E]

In a 27 March 1996 telephone interview with the DIRB, the assistant of the Secretary General of academic services (Secretaria de servicios academicos) at the Universidad Juárez Autónoma de Tabasco in Villahermosa, Mexico, stated that, during the ten years she has been working with the university's academic services, she has never come across information on a group named El Jaguar Despertado nor on a student newspaper with such a name. However, the source mentioned that there is an art gallery in Villahermosa named Galería del Arte del Jaguar Despertado.

In a 27 March 1996 telephone interview with the DIRB a representative of the Galería del Arte del Jaguar Despertado confirmed the existence of this art gallery and its foundation in 1986. The gallery specializes in art crafts from the state of Tabasco and was named after the title of a poem by the famous Tabasco writer Carlos Cammera. The representative told the DIRB that, apart from the art gallery, she has never heard of any group or newspaper called El Jaguar Despertado.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
