According to the September 1998 War
Resisters' International publication (WRI) entitled Refusing to
Bear Arms: A World Survey of Conscription and Conscientious
Objection to Military Service, all men between 18 and 26 years
must perform 18 months of military service (Sept. 1998, 37).
No information on the treatment of members
of ethnic and religious communities in the Azerbaijan military
force could be found among the sources consulted by the Research
Directorate.
This Response was prepared after
researching publicly accessible information currently available to
the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is
not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any
particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below the
