Document request and information on the law and practice of issuing employment authorizations to immigrants and persons with temporary protected status [USA10216]

Please find attached a copy of Section 274 of the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act as revised in 1980. Please note that a new Immigration Act was passed in 1990; however, a copy of this section from the new Act is not currently available to the IRBDC.

According to an Immigration Information Officer with the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, a person applies for work authorization when he/she makes an application for temporary protected status (7 Feb. 1992). An immigrant must apply for work authorization at their local employment office (Ibid.). No further information was provided by this source.

Please refer to the Response to Information Request USA8115 for further information related to temporary protected status in the United States.

There is no further information currently available to the IRBDC on this topic.
