IRB – Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (Author)
Information on this specific subject is
currently unavailable to the DIRB in Ottawa; however it may be of
interest to note that Jusuf S. Sankoh was the president of the All
People's Congress National Youth League (APC/NYL) in 1990 (Youth
Movements of the World 1990, 475). The Youth League was the
youth wing of the sole legal political party in Sierra Leone
(ibid., 474).
According to an official of the Embassy of
the Republic of Sierra Leone in Washington, DC, B.T. Kamara was the
secretary general of the All People's Congress party (APC), while
the assistant secretary general was Patrick Ojong (10 Jan. 1994).
The same source stated that Jusuf Sankoh had been the president of
the Youth League for over five years when the government was
overthrown in 1992. Patrick Ojong was appointed high commissioner
to the Gambia in 1990. The source could not recollect the name of
Patrick Ojong's replacement (ibid.).
This response was prepared after
researching publicly accessible information currently available to
the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does
not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular
claim to refugee status or asylum.
