Background information on a special investigation section possibly called Servicio de Investigaciones Especiales (SIE), 1975-1979 - El Salvador [SLV5279]

Information on a government organization under the name cited above could not be found among the sources currently available to the IRBDC. For the given timeframe, the only reference to a government organization whose name closely resembles the given one is the Servicio de Investigaciones Criminales (SIC, Criminal Investigations' Service), reported in an Amnesty International document on El Salvador (El Salvador: Case Studies July 1976-December 1977; London, 1978). The report mentions the group in three cases of arrests resulting in unacknowledged detention and possible disappearance. According to the report, the SIC was a section of the National Police, formed by plainclothes detectives in possession of automatic guns.
