IRB – Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (Author)
The following information was provided in a
17 May 1995 telephone interview with an administrator of the Tamil
Information Centre in London, United Kingdom. The address of the
"Island Lodge" was faxed to the DIRB by the administrator on 26 May
1995.
The "Island Lodge" is a common lodge for
Tamil Hindus in the heart of Colombo. The lodge is located at 141
Sri Kathiresan Street, Colombo 13. It is a small guest house with
minimal facilities. Approximately four or five people share a room,
sleeping on the floor, and food is not provided. The Island lodge
is centrally located near a bank, post office and immigration
office. The administrator stated that to his knowledge there is
only one "Island Lodge in Colombo," and that it does not have
branch lodges with the same or other names.
Please find attached a copy of a page from
the 1993 Greater Colombo Telephone Directory, which shows the
address of the "Island Lodge."
This Response was prepared after
researching publicly accessible information currently available to
the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does
not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular
claim to refugee status or asylum.
