IRB – Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (Author)
A copy of an article entitle "Helicopter
Gunships: To Fight Who?", that appeared in the Uganda People's
Congress (UPC) weekly The People in October or November 1992
is currently unavailable to the DIRB. However, the following
information may be noteworthy: A Ugandan plane reportedly carrying
"a 19 tonne load of arms and ammunition" was forced to land at
Zagreb airport and later impounded (New African Nov. 1991).
The arms and ammunition were allegedly destined for rebel Croatians
who were fighting for secession from Yugoslavia (ibid.). For
additional information on this topic, please refer to the attached
article.
This response was prepared after
researching publicly accessible information currently available to
the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does
not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular
claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find attached the list of
sources consulted in researching this information request.
