Senior Official At Russia's Federal Penitentiary Service Charged With Embezzlement

Russia's Investigative Committee has charged the deputy chief of the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) with embezzling 160 million rubles ($2.7 million).

The Investigative Committee said on September 14 that Oleg Korshunov, who was responsible for the FSIN's contractor services, has been charged with arranging two government contracts for overpriced purchases of gasoline and food.

The committee said the FSIN sustained financial losses as a result of the purchases.

Korshunov was detained on September 13, reportedly at a yacht club in the Moscow region.

The committee said it was continuing an investigation into what it said could be other "episodes" of embezzlement.
