Blast At Daghestan Police Station Kills Two

Police say at least two police officers were killed in a car-bomb explosion at a police station in Russia's restive North Caucasus region of Daghestan.

The blast occurred early on September 23 at the Tabasaransky district police station.

Russian media quoted police as saying the blast was carried out by a suspected suicide bomber.

The bomb went off just outside the police station.

Several other people, including civilians, were reported injured in the explosion.

Daghestan, an ethnically mixed, mostly Muslim region between Chechnya and the Caspian Sea, has become the most violence-plagued province in Russia's volatile North Caucasus in recent years.

Militants claiming they are fighting to create an Islamic state in the region carry out almost daily attacks against police and local officials.
