IRB – Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (Author)
Awam, founded in 1994, is an Urdu-language daily published in Karachi (Europa 1999 1999, 2750; AFP 12 Dec. 1995; The News 4 Mar. 1997; shillong.com n.d.). In 1997 the newspaper's editorial offices were housed in the same building as those of the Daily Jang (The News 4 Mar. 1997), but it is not clear whether Awam is part of the Jang group of newspapers.
Awam does not at present have an online edition (shillong.com n.d.). Research Directorate efforts to obtain copies of the articles from the Awam office in Karachi were unsuccessful within the time constraints of this Response.
This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below the list of additional sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
