NATO Says Repels Attack By Burkha-Clad Insurgents On Kabul Base

April 02, 2011
Suicide bombers wearing burqas have attacked a NATO base on the outskirts of Kabul, lightly wounding three soldiers.

Kabul police chief Ayoubi Salangi said there were three attackers, two of whom blew themselves up at the door of the base while the other was killed by security guards.

A spokesman for NATO-led forces said there were just two attackers, and only one was a possible suicide bomber.

The attack targeted Camp Phoenix, which lies on the road to the eastern city of Jalalabad.

The camp has suffered previous attacks, including in late 2009 when a car bomb there wounded nine NATO soldiers.
