Russia Says Two Suspected IS Militants Killed In Raid

Russia’s Investigative Committee says two suspected members of the extremist Islamic State group have been “liquidated” in a security operation in central Russia.

Two explosive devices and other bomb-making material were among items seized in the raid in Tyumen, the Investigative Committee said in a statement on April 13 cited by the Interfax news agency.

Late on April 12, Interfax and TASS reported that an “antiterrorist operation” was under way in the city, with streets cordoned off near the apartment block where the suspected IS militants were reportedly holed up. People in the vicinity were also evacuated.

Photos of the massive security presence late on April 12 – including armored carriers -- circulated on Twitter.

Recordings of what were described as gunfire in the area late on April 12 also circulated on Twitter.

The Investigative Committee said the two suspects had been "plotting terror attacks in the region."
