Information on whether members of the Partido Resistencia Nicaraguense (PRN) have suffered abuses by the government since 1994 and on the current situation of the PRN [NIC23018.E]

Information on abuses by the government against members of the Partido Resistencia Nicaraguense (PRN) since 1994 could not be found among the sources consulted by the DIRB.

Only one case of violence suffered by a PRN member in 1995 could be found among the published sources consulted, although the source does not identify the perpetrator(s). The 1995 annual human rights report of the Comision Permanente de Derechos Humanos (CPDH) of Nicaragua reports that Isidro Galeano, a 24-year old peasant, former "contra" collaborator and member of the PRN was found dead on 8 September 1995 (10). He appeared to have been shot with machine-gun fire, in Cusulí county (comarca), Waslala jurisdiction (jurisdicción), department of Matagalpa.

The attached documents provide information on recent (1995) Nicaraguan political developments referring directly or indirectly to the PRN.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below a list of sources consulted in researching this Information Request.

Oral sources are usually contacted when documentary sources have been exhausted. However, oral sources must agree to be quoted in a publicly available Response to Information Request. If they refuse, the Response will read "no information currently available." Contacting oral sources is also subject to time constraints; for example, there are periods of the year when academics are unavailable.
