Information on the treatment of journalists
at the magazine Precencia Nacional in Mexico City from 1996 to
1998, the magazine's frequency of publication, its circulation and
whether it has a particular political affiliation could not be
found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate. You
will general information on the magazine Presencia Nacional in
MEX30490.E of 4 November 1998 and MEX30260.E of 22 October
1998.
In a 5 November 1998 telephone interview
with the Research Directorate, a directory assistance operator in
Mexico City stated that the magazine Precencia Nacional is not
listed in the telephone registry.
In a 5 November 1998 telephone interview
with the Research Directorate, a representative of the
Latinamerican Federation of Journalists (Federación
Latinoamericana de Periodistas-FELAP), stated, after verification
of the press directory, that she had no information on the
existence of a magazine named Precencia Nacional in Mexico
City.
The annual reports of Reporters Sans
Frontières for the years 1996, 1997 and 1998 do not mention
this magazine, nor any attacks against its staff. Europa World
Yearbook 1998 does not list Precencia Nacional as one of the
dailies or magazines present in Mexico nor does Benn's Media World
1996 which lists hundreds of Mexico's newspapers and magazines.
Mexico's National Commission of Human Rights annual report for the
year 1994-1995 does not list the magazine Precencia Nacional nor
any of its staff treatment by the authorities in its chapter
entitled "Program on Human Rights Violations Against Journalists"
which details all types of attacks and threats suffered by
journalists in all Mexico
