IRB – Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (Author)
Please find attached several articles that
deal with allegations of human rights abuses made against the
former Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Canada, retired brigadier
general Tissa Weeratunga. Please note that the attached articles
refer mostly to the initial allegations, as reported in September
1986, and on the Canadian government's response to them. More
recent reports discussing the diplomat's departure from Canada or
his current whereabouts could not be found among the sources
consulted by the DIRB, which include various on-line databases
searched for this Response and the sources consulted for Response
to Information Request LKA19863.E.
This Response was prepared after
researching publicly accessible information currently available to
the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does
not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular
claim to refugee status or asylum.
