The two Radio Free Europe articles which
are attached give the most up-to-date information on the demands of
the Hungarian minority in Slovakia (11 percent of the population)
and the response of the Czechoslovak government. They also report,
to some extent, on the discrimination which ethnic Hungarians claim
still exists. According to the more recent report, "the Hungarian
minority is now able to revitalize its few existing associations,
set up new cultural and political organizations, and seek
cooperation with Slovak democratic groups in order to improve its
situation." (1 June, p. 21)
