Reports that specifically mention demonstrations by Falun Gong practitioners in Yantai, Shandong province, could not be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.
While not specifically mentioning Yantai, Tai Yang Pao reported that more than 100,000 Falun Gong members "staged protests ... in over 30 cities in 12 provinces and municipalities, including ... Shandong" on 21 July 1999 (22 July 1999). The protests, which were reported to be in response to an earlier roundup of Falun Gong leaders, resulted in the arrest of "over 10,000 protestors" of whom "most ... were released the same day" (ibid.).
Reports of protests or demonstrations by Falun Gong practitioners in Shandong province in August 2001 could not be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.
