Information on whether a replacement national ID card is given the same identification number as the original ID card; and whether the date of issue of the ID card is part of this number [PAK22295.E]

An official of the High Commission for the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Ottawa stated in a 16 November 1995 telephone interview that a replacement national ID card has the same number as the original card and will have the word "duplicate" stamped on it. The official added that the date of issue of the card is located on the bottom right hand corner of the card, whereas the ID number is located on the back of the ID card (ibid.). The official stated that occasionally, either the year of issue of the ID card or the holder's year of birth can appear as digits 4 and 5 of the ID number (ibid.).
