Information on whether a Tamil who was detained in Colombo would have his identity card automatically returned to him upon release [LKA14253]

According to a representative of the High Commission for Sri Lanka in Ottawa, if the identity card of a Tamil was taken at the time of his detention, it would definitely be returned upon release; the law requires Sri Lankans to have their identity cards with them at all times.

Additional or corroborative information on the above subject is currently unavailable to the DIRB.
