Update to AGO37571.E of 27 July 2001 on whether the Cadeia Central de Luanda (Central Prison) is popularly known as the Cadeia da Estrada de Catete (Catete Prison) because it located on Catete Road in Luanda [AGO37761.E]

In 6 August 2001 correspondence, a journalist at the Luanda-based newspaper Folha 8 stated that the Cadeia Central de Luanda and the Cadeia da Estrada de Catete are two different prisons. The former one is located in the neighbourhood of Petrangol and is also known as the Comarca de Luanda (ibid). The latter one no longer exists, but was previously a security state prison located on Catete Road; this prison was known as one of the "worst in the country" where people were sent for "alleged political reasons" (ibid.).
