UN Casualty Figures for October

The number of civilians killed was 852 (including 158 civilian police), while the number of civilians injured was 1,793 (including 218 civilian police). A further 127 members of the Iraqi Security Forces were killed and 109 were injured. 

“Indiscriminate violence is constant. Every day, every week, every month dozens, if not hundreds of innocent Iraqis are killed or deeply wounded. This is senseless”, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG), Mr. Nickolay Mladenov, said. “It is urgent that the Iraqi leaders take together the necessary bold steps to bring an end to the current mayhem, and to foil attempts by terrorists to destroy the social fabric of the Iraqi society.”

Baghdad was the worst affected Governorate with 1336 civilian casualties (411 killed, 925 injured), followed by Ninewa (188 killed 294 injured), Salahuddin (106 killed, 253 injured), and Anbar (57 killed 77 injured).

Diyala, Kirkuk, Babel, Wasit, Muthana and Basra also reported casualties (double digit figures)
