At Least 11 Reported Killed In U.S. Drone Strikes
A new series of U.S. unmanned drone missile strikes is reported to have killed at least 11 people in Pakistan's northwestern tribal region, close to the Afghanistan border.
Reports quoting security officials say the pre-dawn strikes targeted two compounds in the Darga Mandi area of the North Waziristan district, a region where Taliban and Al-Qaeda militants are known to operate.
The AFP news agency quotes security officials as saying the strike apparently targeted militants linked to the Haqqani network, which is suspected of carrying out attacks against foreign forces in Afghanistan.
The drone strike was the third such strike in the region in a 24-hour period, following two strikes on September 14 that killed at least 15 people, most of them believed to have been suspected militants.
