Information on whether there is any recent evidence of threats of ill-treatment of Sinhalese who house or help Tamils by the Janatha Vimukti Peramuna (JVP) or Sri Lankan police since 1994 [LKA22794.E]

Information on the above-mentioned subject could not be found among the sources consulted by the DIRB. However, attached please find two brief reports by the Sri Lanka Information Monitor (INFORM) in Colombo which may be of interest. The organization reported that on 2 August 1995, a Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) leader posing as a Sinhalese was arrested and that on 15 March 1995, a Sinhalese and a Tamil were arrested at Kelanitissa electricity building for taking photographs (Sri Lanka Information Monitor: Situation Report Aug. 1995, 1; ibid. Mar. 1995, 2).
