ENDNOTES:
As stated by an official at the UNHCR office in Ottawa during a telephone interview with a member of the IRBDC on 7 February 1990.] The refugee population of Kenya is mostly urban and settled in and around the city of Mombasa. Kenya has at least one reception centre, one rural settlement and Transit Centres where the Kenyan Ministry of Home Affairs screens claimants and determines refugee status, while the UNHCR acts as an observer and occasional advisor. The UNHCR also works through a Church organization in Kenya. [ Ibid.]
