How many students are registered at the National University of El Salvador, and do they require a special card to enter the university's grounds [SLV5662]

According to the Embassy of El Salvador in Ottawa, the National University of El Salvador has one main branch in San Salvador, the country's capital, and three sites throughout the country. No exact figure of registered students is currently available, as the number of students undergoing registration, dropping out or graduating alters the numbers constantly, but the Embassy estimated that a total number of 25,000 to 30,000 persons currently study at the National University's different branches, including the main one in the capital. The Encyclopedia of the Third World (New York: Facts on File, Inc., 1987), p. 643, reported in 1987 that the total number of students at the National University of El Salvador was 24, 061.

The Embassy of El Salvador in Washington stated that at present some of the buildings and faculties of the National University of El Salvador are closed or dispersed throughout the capital city in different buildings, and special identification cards to enter them may not be a requirement.

Corroborating information for the above statements could not be found among the sources currently available to the IRBDC.
