Hundreds Of Turkish Journalists Rally In Support Of Jailed Colleagues

March 13, 2011
Reports say hundreds of journalists are gathered in the Turkish capital to protest the arrest of reporters jailed on charges of antigovernment activity.

Authorities arrested several journalists earlier this month, among them Nedim Sener, honored with the International Press Institute's World Press Freedom Hero award last year.

Journalists carried banners reading, "Turkey: set journalists free" and "No to wiretapping."

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been accused by rights groups of cracking down on the media in recent months.

Erdogan has denied the charges.
