Suspected U.S. Strike Kills Taliban Commander

November 22, 2010
A suspected U.S. drone strike in northwestern Pakistan has killed seven militants, including a militant leader.

An RFE/RL correspondent quotes local intelligence officials as saying Mustafa Qureshi was among the dead in the November 21 strike on a militant compound in Khaddi village in North Waziristan.

The area near the Afghan border is part of the semiautonomous tribal region of Pakistan that is almost entirely controlled by militants.

The United States has carried out more than 100 drone strikes in Pakistan this year, mainly in North Waziristan.
