Pakistani Police Clash With Militants

February 23, 2013
Pakistani police have killed three attackers after militants threw a grenade at a vehicle carrying police officers in the northwest.

Police said one officer was killed and two others wounded in the February 23 attack, which took place near a highway in the town of Akora Khattak.

No one claimed responsibility, but suspicion fell on pro-Taliban militants who often target police and security forces in the troubled northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Pakistani security forces have carried out several operations in the area targeting militants.

Akora Khattak is located about 50 kilometers east of the main northwestern city of Peshawar.
