Whether it is police practice in Punjab to require Sikhs males who have been detained and released to report to the police station periodically as a condition of release [IND30340.E]

In a 15 October 1998 e-mail, the Executive Director of the South Asia Human Rights Documentation Centre (SAHRDC) in Delhi stated that "any Indian who has been released on parole or bail can be required to report to a police station regularly as part of the conditions governing bail. This is to ensure that the individual on bail does not skip bail."

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
